Step By Step is celebrating 30 years of empowering young single mothers and their children in Lexington — and we’d love for you to join us for a special evening of food, memories, and an unforgettable experience!
Whether you were once a mom or child in Step By Step programming, volunteered your time, served on our board, partnered with us financially or through in-kind support, or are just now learning about our mission — you are part of our story, and we invite you to celebrate with us.
Join us on September 9, 2025, at the historic Kentucky Theater for an evening of hors d'oeuvres, mingling with old and new SBS friends, and the premiere of a powerful documentary film — JUMP — followed by an engaging talk-back session with those involved in its creation.
About JUMP
In 2014, a remarkable group of young mothers from Step By Step came together to tell their stories in their own words. With courage and vulnerability, they crafted original spoken word pieces that captured the joys, struggles, fears, and hopes of parenting at a young age.
They were guided by a professional writer who helped them shape their narratives and supported by performance coaches from VoicesAmp, who taught them how to command the stage with authenticity and power. A movement instructor worked alongside them to bring physical expression and presence to their words — transforming their stories into a dynamic, multi-sensory experience that moved audiences deeply.
Behind the scenes, a documentary film crew captured their journey — from writing workshops to rehearsals to final performances — highlighting not just the final product but the emotional and transformative process that brought it to life.
JUMP is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and strength of the young women of Step By Step, and we are honored to premiere it as part of our 30th anniversary celebration.
