Mentor a mom. Change the world.

MentorMom2

If you can love,
you can mentor.

Step By Step’s “Refine” is a mentoring ministry for young single mothers, ages 12 to 24. Mentors help fulfill Step ByStep’s mission by serving as a member of our community and joining us in investing in the life of a young mom. You don’t need any special experience to do this--all you need is your life experience, your time, your faith, and your love. That’s all it takes to change the world.

“I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to grow in their faith, to learn to love radically, and to serve the community. Just as He did for me, God will equip His kingdom builders. You just have to say, 'Yes, Lord.'”

A Step By Step Mentor

You probably have some questions.

WHAT DOES A MENTOR DO, ANYWAY?
Put simply, you develop a positive, non-judgmental relationship with a young mom. You hang out withher once a week, listen to her, offer her practicaladvice, and serve as a much-needed point of stability for her. You are not her best friend or her mom--you’re simply someone who cares about her.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO COMMIT?
Mentors are asked to meet with their Step By Step mom for just one hour per week. Other time commitments include the training we provide at the beginning of the season, as well as monthly meetings throughout the year. Your time commitment is roughly 6-8 hours per month.

ARE THERE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?
Yes--and you probably meet them. We’re looking for Christ-centered women that will help their mentee meet her full potential in life through a non- judgemental, stable relationship. You don’t need to be a Biblical Scholar but you do need to love the Lord, be involved in a church or Bible study, read your Bible regularly, and pray.

WHERE CAN I MEET WITH MY MENTEE?
Any safe environment that allows you to have one- on-one time together! Head to the library, graba coffee, hang out at a park, share a meal, go to abaseball game--the possibilities are endless and we’ll help you make the best choices for you and your Mentee.

ARE THERE ANY EXPENSES INVOLVED?
You take no financial responsibility for your mentee--there are no fees involved, and you are not expected to provide your mentee with financial assistance. If you are going to a paid event, we do ask that you cover the cost.

ARE MY MENTEE’S KIDS ALLOWED TO JOIN US?
Yes! This is a chance for your mentee to be in a safe, comfortable environment, and we want to make sure that our moms feel that their kids are safe as well. It can be hard for our moms to find childcare, so we want to invite their kids to join you if possible. Your children are welcome as well, as long as your focus stays on your mentee.

ARE YOU SURE I CAN DO THIS?
Absolutely. We provide comprehensive training and guidance and are always available for coaching you through anything that might arise. You just need to bring your time and your heart to the table.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT MENTORING?
We’re so glad you asked.

“Older women must train the younger women to love... their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, (and) to do good.” Titus 2:4-5

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
